Magnesium requirements are affected by stress, diet and certain medications. The higher the metabolism, the higher Mg requirements. When we are stressed, magnesium is the number 1 mineral to go, followed by sodium and potassium. Mg deficiency makes us more stressed because we don’t have the resiliency to handle stress well, which magnesium provides. So it’s this vicious cycle that can keep us in perpetual state of stress and it can be hard to get out unless we replenish our mineral stores.
