You are what you…
Let me explain what I mean by this post. Everyone has probably heard the famous phrase “you are what you eat”. While I agree with that statement, I wanted to unpack it even more. There are different layers and depths that I wanted to point out.
~
“You are what you eat.”
The food we’re eating and the food quality obviously matter a lot. No wonder modern day people feel like crap when they’re eating highly processed foods made in the lab.
~
“You are what you eat eats.”
Another thing to take into consideration here is the diet of the animals we eat and also the quality of their life. With plants, we’d want to ask about the health of soil, water and what it’s been sprayed with. We’re only as healthy as the food we eat is.
~
“You are what you absorb.”
Another layer to unpeel is about our digestion. If our diet is healthy but our digestion is not working optimally then our body can struggle to absorb the nutrients.
~
“You are what you utilize.”
The last thing I wanted to mention is regarding bioavailability and utilizing cofactors. If the food we eat has low bioavailability then the content of nutrients doesn’t really matter because our body is not able to utilize it anyways.

I only focused on food in this post but “we are what we consume” is relevant also for music we listen to, movies we watch, books we read, relationships we are a part of, etc. Are you aware of what you’re consuming? It might have a much bigger affect on you than you think.
